Robert is Vice President, Technical Services and Engine Programs for Willis Lease Finance Corporation based in Coconut Creek, FL. Robert and his team are responsible for the lease return process for the Willis Lease owned and managed engine and aircraft fleets. His group also manages all Willis engines during scheduled or unscheduled shop visits as well as owned aircraft checks and transitions. Additionally, the team provides technical liaison and input for issues with the lease in and out process.
Prior to Willis Lease, Robert was a Technical Program Manager for Aviation Capital Group managing primarily the CFM56 engines installed on ACG owned aircraft. Previous to ACG, he was the Director of Engineering for Pacific Gas Turbine Center. Prior to PGTC, ACG and Willis, he was the Manager of Propulsion Engineering for US Airways for 18 years. He oversaw the technical programs of the US Airways turbine engine fleet with much of this work involved in the technical oversight of third party vendors. Robert has worked for over 40 years as an engineer and manager in the aviation industry for WLFC, ACG, PGTC, Pratt & Whitney, US Airways, Eastern, and Continental Airlines.
Robert has authored several AIAA and SAE papers on design for the airline environment. In addition, he has presented several papers at various industry conferences on airline maintenance practices and trends as well Engineering Education. Mr. Matson is the past chairperson of the AIAA Aerospace Maintenance Technical Committee. A native of Chicago, Mr. Matson holds a B.S. degree in Aeronautical Engineering from Purdue University. He also has a Certificate in Executive and Business Coaching from San Diego State University. As well as being a Certified Specialist of Wine (CSW) and American Wine Expert (AWE).
